In 2021, the France Musique-Claude Samuel Book Grand Prix returns to Hervé Lacombe for his History of the French Opera. From the Consulate to the beginnings of the Third Republic, first part of a trilogy whose second volume, From the Sun King to the Revolution, just released. Professor of musicology at Rennes 2 University, Hervé Lacombe is also the author of the biographies of Bizet and Poulenc, still with Fayard.


In homage to Claude Samuel, its founder and great figure in French musical life who died last June, Le Prix des Muses has now become Le Prix du Livre France Musique Claude Samuel. Each year, this prize distinguishes books devoted to classical music, jazz and traditional music.

Composed of 10 personalities * from the world of music, the jury of the France Music Claude Samuel 2021 Book Prize will reward 4 authors on Wednesday May 5 at Radio France.

The Grand Prize is awarded to Hervé Lacombe for his book “Histoire de l’Opéra français. From the Consulate to the beginnings of the Third Republic ”.

The four winners will be discovered on France Musique in Relax ! by Lionel Esparza, May 5 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Simmel Center at EHESS; Philippe Venturini, head of the “Discs section” at Classica, music critic for Les Echos, producer at France Musique.
