Munich / Berlin (dpa / lby) – The federal government is supporting five urban development projects in Bavaria with around 15 million euros. 5.75 million euros are available for the reconstruction of the historic town hall in Straubing, which was badly damaged in a fire in 2016. The Federal Ministry of the Interior in Berlin announced on Wednesday that the historical splendor should be restored and at the same time the use as a modern town hall should be possible.

Four million euros will flow into the renovation of the bath wing of the Nuremberg public baths – according to the ministry, an impressive testimony to the bathing culture of Art Nouveau. One million euros will go to Landshut for the renovation and expansion of the city theater, while the design of the Saaletaler Höfe in Graefendorf in Lower Franconia will receive 2.6 million euros. The project of high building culture quality should be a model for other places in rural areas, so the reasoning.

A memorial site on the site of a former National Socialist camp for forced laborers in Munich-Neuaubing is being supported with 1.66 million euros. According to the city, the barracks are one of the few remaining structural evidence of the exploitation of forced laborers. Between 1942 and 1945, the Nazis housed around 1,000 people here. With the NS Documentation Center, the city wants to create a place of remembrance and learning.

The federal government is funding a total of 24 projects from all over Germany with a total of around 75 million euros.
