If a stranger got lost on Lilongwe’s streets on Saturday evening, he would have had the impression that Malawi had become world soccer champion. Flag-wielding people who fell into each other’s arms drunk; honking cars, the windows of which were frantically waving passengers; Fireworks that lit up the sky of the Malawian capital. The social networkers also practiced pathos: “I am honored to be a Malawian,” says a certain Captain Melo. “I am deep in my feels,” adds a Twitter user who calls herself “Happy New Malawi”.
