Exactly one year ago, members of the royal family said goodbye to Prince Philip at his funeral at Windsor Castle. It was a fitting farewell for the Queen’s late beloved husband, with more than 700 service members attending the ceremony, marking his connection to the army and navy during World War II.

The service was attended by all members of his family, including his grandson Prince Harry, who flew in from California, where he has been living with his family, Meghan Markle, and two children since 2020.

As the small ceremony drew to a close, the Royal Marines Band played the naval battle cry, the horns commonly heard on navy ships to signal that everyone should be sent to battle stations. “The symbolism of his last call will not be lost for the family. Even in the last moments of the duke’s life before burial, he called on his troops, his family to take their posts,” the message says.
