Dj Gustavito, one of the co-authors of the version presented by EHR HIPHOP Hits music channel FM, says: “It is very good that we have started to develop this movement. I’m all for listeners having choice and making this genre of music accessible to the general public. Radio is the platform where you can select the latest songs of this genre. The level of hip-hop in Latvia has risen a lot in recent years – both in terms of musical presentation and lyrical decoration. This is also evidenced by the fact that many foreign hip-hop musicians come to Latvia and these concerts are very well attended.”

On the other hand, Toms Barons Lūkis, head of the EHR Latvian hits brand, while evaluating the manifesto, emphasizes: “It is a great pleasure that the hip-hop commune showed its unity and came to the manifesto. Of course, we are also glad that the Riga City Council allowed us to organize this event.

The big takeaway is that we’ve already shown that hip-hop is a cultural genre just like pop music, pop music, and many other types of music, the only difference is that it’s played significantly less on the radio.

Currently, we have launched the FM version of the EHR HIPHOP Hits music channel on the EHR application, the EHR website and other radio streaming sites. The songs of the Hiphop FM station are censored, they are played in English and Latvian, and we are ready to launch this version at a frequency of 100 megahertz.”

“The decision, of course, has to be made by NEPLP,”

says Tom Baron Lukis. “This was the moment when many of those present realized that hip-hop deserved a place on the airwaves. We see young people leaving traditional media and this is a unique platform for young people to consume. In addition, in this way, young people could be brought closer to their parents.

The new platform could dispel the misconceptions of some parents about what hip-hop is.

That it’s not just American gangsters, it’s the type of music that most broadly reflects the problems of society, so parents could also better understand their children through this music.”
