NFL: Week 14 Previews

Jones is out – Chiefs, Cardinals and Bears fear for superstars. The injury overview before week 14.

Miami Dolphins (8-4) – Kansas City Chiefs (11-1) (So., 19.00 Uhr LIVE ON DAZN)

  • The start of an absolutely brutal final program for the Dolphins! Miami is one of the positive surprises of the current season, but has so far also benefited from a simple game plan. For the past four weeks Miami has played against the Chargers, Broncos, Jets and Bengals, now the Chiefs, Patriots, Raiders and Bills follow. The playoffs are anything but set in stone for Brian Flores’ team.
  • In order to be able to cause a surprise against the reigning champion, Miami’s defense will once again have to reproduce the strong level of the last few weeks. Around Xavien Howard and Byron Jones, the Dolphins have built what is perhaps the strongest secondary in the NFL, but with Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce as well as Patrick Mahomes under Center, they will also have their toughest test to date this week.
  • Meanwhile, Tua Tagovailoa should start offensive again for the Dolphins. The rookie has never thrown a single interception, but has never passed for more than 300 yards. To what extent such a performance against the Chiefs’ offensive machine can be enough is doubtful. Myles Gaskin will once again take the role of lead back, while Salvon Ahmed is still injured.
  • Meanwhile, the guests are still worried about tyrant Mathieu. The Safety could not fully train on Friday and is listed as questionable. Mathieu will probably be able to play, but failure would hit the Chiefs hard. The 28-year-old is not only arguably the team’s best defender, his flexibility is what makes many of Kansas City’s coverages possible in the first place.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (7-5) – Minnesota Vikings (6-6) (So., 19.00 Uhr)

  • A duel is taking place in Tampa Bay, and the stakes are particularly high. After the clap against the Saints and the defeats against the Rams and Chiefs, the Bucs have fallen from the top of the NFC South to the edge of the playoff ranks in the NFC. If they were defeated by the Vikings, Tom Brady and Co. would fall behind the Vikings – and would definitely have to tremble for the playoffs.
  • Meanwhile, the matchups are encouraging: With Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Antonio Brown, the Bucs have perhaps the best receiving trio in the league, the cornerbacks of the Vikings can be beaten. However: So far, the stars of the Bucs have only been able to call up their quality inconsistently, and Cameron Dantzler has played outstandingly for Minnesota over the past few weeks.
  • When it comes to receivers, the Vikings don’t have to hide from their hosts. Adam Thielen and Justin Jefferson meanwhile provide outstanding statistics and spectacular highlight plays week after week. Carlton Davis should take over one of the two stars, but next man Jamel Dean is very likely to be out. Sean Murphy bunting will probably start for him.
  • The Vikings are also struggling defensively with injury concerns. Eric Kendricks is out after his calf injury the week before, a real weakening for the guests’ defensive unit. Kendricks is one of the best players in the Vikings in coverage as well as run defense. Especially in the middle of the field, Kendricks’ absence could be clearly noticeable.

New York Giants (5-7) – Arizona Cardinals (6-6) (So., 19.00 Uhr)

  • The most important question in advance: will Daniel Jones be able to play? The quarterback was out last week due to an injury, the limitations of backup Colt McCoy against the Seahawks – despite the victory – could not be overlooked. However, Jones will most likely make his comeback, most recently the 23-year-old had noticeably improved and, in particular, reduced his turnover.
  • It will also be decisive how the host’s pass protection can present itself. After a disappointing start to the season, first round pick Andrew Thomas was able to improve noticeably recently, a clear upgrade for the Giants’ O-Line. Without Chandler Jones, the Cardinals’ pass rush has struggled several times this season, and New York may have an advantage here.
  • On the other hand, the focus is of course on Kyler Murray. The former number one pick has struggled with a few problems over the past few weeks, and his MVP train has clearly lost momentum. However, that is more due to the entire offense than to him alone. Kliff Kingsbury’s play designs are often disappointing this season, but could repeat the same against the Giants, whose defense was recently among the best in the league.
  • DeAndre Hopkins in particular remained paler than he should be in the Cardinals offense. In the last three games, Nuk never reached 60 or more receiving yards, and he only caught one touchdown. During the week, he also struggled with injuries to 28-year-olds. Can he report back impressively against James Bradberry and Co.?

Jacksonville Jaguars (1-11) – Tennessee Titans (8-4) (So., 19.00 Uhr)

  • The Jaguars may have lost eleven games in a row, but that doesn’t mean they have no chance. In the previous week Jacksonville was only defeated by the Vikings in overtime, before they lost to the Browns, Packers and Texans all with a maximum of four points behind. The Titans would do well not to underestimate their opponent …
  • Especially since the Titans go into the duel with a painful defeat in the back. The final score of 35:41 ultimately concealed the clear issue against the Browns. In the first half, Baker Mayfield had dismantled Tennessee’s Secondary without any problems, the pass rush was completely canceled. Maybe Mike Glennon can start here.
  • Glennon is allowed to start for the Jaguars once more, he is preferred to Gardner Minshew. Of course, he will once again receive support in the offense from rookie sensation James Robinson. In the first meeting of the Jaguars and the Titans, the running back ran at 16 carries for 102 yards and a touchdown. Robinson will want to build on this achievement.
  • Quarterback Ryan Tannehill was even more impressive when the Titans beat the Jaguars at 33:30 at the start of the season. If Tennessee can attack its play-action game, the former Dolphins star is one of the league’s most dangerous passers. Jacksonville will have to put the guests in long pass situations, otherwise the defense could face an uncomfortable evening.
