Highlights of Day 1 in the 2023 Liga MX Apertura Championship

Day 1 of the 2023 Liga MX Apertura championship ended with the 2-1 victory of Chivas against León, with the Serbian coach Veljko Paunovic debuting three players and with the youthful Yael Padilla scoring the winning goal at just 17 years of age, that allowed the Flock to slip among the leaders of the contest.

The date began with FC Juárez defeating América 2-1 at the Azteca, embittering the official presentation of Brazilian Andre Jardine as coach of the Águilas. Pachuca barely drew 1-1 at the Mazatlán FC field and Pumas came back in great shape to win 3-2 against Xolos de Tijuana, in the reunion between Miguel Herrera and Antonio Mohamed.

Already on Saturday the royal teams disappointed in their matches, as Rayados de Monterrey was saved and equalized 1-1 at the home of Atlético de San Luis, while Tigres, the current champion of the MX League, was saved from ridicule and pulled a adjusted 1-1 against Puebla in the Volcán. For its part, Atlas struck down a Cruz Azul 2-0 that showed no signs of improvement.

On Sunday, Toluca and Necaxa saved the goals, drawing 0-0 at the Nemesio Díez, while the Gallos de Querétaro gave the bell and beat Santos Laguna 2-0 at the TSM to position themselves in the general leadership together with Atlas, leaving National University in third place; Chivas and Bravos appear below, the other teams that boasted a victory.
