Because of the widespread use of the delta variant of the corona virus, the federal government is massively restricting entry from Portugal and Russia. Both states will be considered virus variant areas from Tuesday, as the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) announced.
The classification entails an extensive transport ban for airlines, bus and train companies. You are only allowed to bring German citizens and foreigners residing in Germany across the border. Those who are allowed to enter the Federal Republic have to be in quarantine for 14 days. The obligation cannot be shortened by a corona test and even applies to those who have been completely vaccinated and those who have recovered.
In Portugal and Russia, the number of infections has recently risen sharply again. The Portuguese capital Lisbon was largely cordoned off, in Russia the metropolises Moscow and Saint Petersburg are particularly badly affected.

The RKI did not identify any new high incidence areas. The Zadar region in Croatia, the South Sea state of Fiji and the African Rwanda are new low-risk areas.

For various other countries, however, the travel restrictions will be further relaxed. In addition to the Netherlands, Denmark and Luxembourg, Latvia and Slovenia as well as individual regions in Sweden and Croatia are no longer risk areas from Sunday.
In the European Union – apart from Portugal – there will no longer be a state that is completely classified in a risk category. Otherwise only some regions in Ireland, Croatia, Sweden and Spain are on the list of risk areas. There are also individual overseas territories in France. The autonomous Caribbean islands of Aruba and Sint Marteen, which belong to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, are also classified in this category.
