Hessian Police Using Social Media to Recruit Young Talent

    A stand at training fairs is no longer enough: the police are also looking for people interested in this profession on YouTube and Instagram.

    Wiesbaden – According to the Interior Ministry, the Hessian police have been successfully relying on a “cross-media advertising concept” for years in their search for young talent. With a “striking design and diverse and original measures” it draws attention to a modern and attractive employer.

    Potential applicants can also be addressed directly on the Internet. “The Hessian police are very successfully represented on social media, whether with around 26,300 subscribers on YouTube or around 28,500 followers on Instagram,” says the Interior Ministry. There is also the podcast “Kugelsicher”, which shows the versatility of the profession.

    Hesse’s law enforcement officers were the first police in Germany to use augmented reality (AR) to recruit young people. Virtual objects, game characters or information are displayed in the real environment. The interaction of digital and analog life often works via a cell phone camera or glasses.

    According to the Interior Ministry, Hesse’s police are also present at training fairs and school events. “Every police authority” has recruitment consultants who “work daily to recruit applicants for the Hesse police”. Anyone who applies will receive a permanent contact person for close support until the recruitment date. dpa
