Hessen’s best young researchers are sought in Darmstadt – FFH.de

Hesse’s best young researchers will meet in Darmstadt on Thursday and Friday (7/8). This is where the state finals in the “Jugend forscht” science competition take place.

Expert jury evaluates the projects

Under Merck’s sponsorship, the winners of the Hessian regional competitions compete for a place in the national final. 43 researchers between the ages of 15 and 21 present 24 forward-looking projects. On the first day of the competition, the participants present their projects to an expert jury. On Friday from 4 p.m. the ceremony will take place with the announcement of the winners, which can be followed via live stream. The Hessian Minister of Education Alexander Lorz sends a video message. Merck Executive Board Member Kai Beckmann will attend the ceremony in person to present the special awards.

Math and computer science in the foreground

The young researchers compete in the seven competition categories of working environment, biology, chemistry, geo and spatial sciences, mathematics/computer science, physics and technology. This year, the number of registrations for the subject area of ​​mathematics/computer science was particularly high, with seven projects. A list with the description of all participating projects is available on the Internet.

Schools and institutions from all over Hesse are represented at this year’s state competition: Bensheim (Liebfrauenschule), Darmstadt (Edith Stein School, MINT Zentrum Darmstadt KISS), Eschwege (Friedrich Wilhelm School), Frankfurt am Main (Free Christian School Frankfurt, Gymnasium Riedberg), Geisenheim (Schloss Hansenberg boarding school), Hanau (Ludwig-Geißler-School), Kassel (Georg-Christoph-Lichtenberg-School, student research center North Hesse), Lampertheim (Lessing-Gymnasium), Lahnau (Lahntalschule), Marburg (Elisabethschule, Martin Luther School), Michelstadt (Michelstadt High School), Neu-Isenburg (Goethe School), Oberursel (Oberursel High School), Schwalbach am Taunus (Albert Einstein School) and Seeheim-Jugenheim (Youth Research MakerLab Schuldorf Bergstraße, MINT Center am school village Bergstrasse).
