Heroin seized in Madeira represents one fifth of the total captured in the country in 2019

The arrest of a woman in flagrante delicto in possession of 10 kilograms of heroin at Madeira Airport is the biggest seizure of this drug in the archipelago.

As already reported, the Judiciary Police today announced that it had dismantled “a relevant circuit” of drug supply to the Autonomous Region of Madeira, detaining a woman in flagrante delicto in possession of 10 kilograms of heroin.

“This is the largest seizure of heroin recorded in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, with the amount seized being likely to correspond to approximately 120,000 individual doses,” the statement said.

According to Expresso, according to data from the Annual Internal Security Report (RASI), the 10 kilograms of heroin represent almost a fifth of the total captured in Portugal last year. The Portuguese authorities seized 46 kilos in 2019, which represented a decrease of almost 50% of the seizures in relation to the previous year.

It is recalled that the issue is “Operation Pico Ruivo”, carried out by the Judiciary Police (PJ) through the Department of Criminal Investigation of Madeira and launched last weekend, after a four-month investigation.

The detainee was present to the competent judicial authorities for questioning, and the preventive detention coercion measure was applied.

Investigations are still under the responsibility of the Judiciary Police.
