New York now has information available for the first five landmark grants for fiscal year 2023 to help artists and arts and culture organizations across the state, Governor Kathy Hochul announced Wednesday. This through the New York State Council on the Arts.

The 2023 state budget allocation includes $50 million in recovery funds and $50 million in support for capital projects, in addition to the agency’s core grant-making budget of $40 million. A total of $140 million.

New York’s arts sector is integral to the identity, character and economic well-being of our state,” Governor Hochul said. “These historic NYSCA grants will help strengthen nonprofit organizations, fuel the creative work of artists in all 62 boroughs, and revitalize the industry. As we welcome a new era for New York, we must continue to invest in artists.” and the cultural institutions throughout New York that make our state the art capital of the world.”

The following grant opportunities are open:

• Support to Organizations: Provides flexible general programming and operating funding for nonprofit organizations. This funding may also reach fiscally sponsored unincorporated organizations throughout the state.
Support for artists: funds creative commissions for individual artists statewide. Applicants must apply through a fiscal sponsor. NYSCA embraces the rich diversity of art throughout New York, and applicants from all arts practices and disciplines are encouraged to apply.
Support for special opportunities: supports opportunities that make space, time, and learning more accessible to artists and their creative endeavors. Opportunities encompass creative performance residencies, subsidized rehearsal spaces for all forms of performing arts, and popular arts apprenticeships.
Regrowth and capacity improvement: provides organizations with flexible funding to rebuild their ability to serve their audiences while taking into account the impacts of COVID-19. Funds can cover a wide range of needs, such as: paying artists, supporting staffing, supporting programmatic costs, promoting audience development, and helping with necessary health and safety expenses.
Support for associations: supports refinancing and partner organizations in all 62 boroughs while identifying new opportunities to ensure greater reach of NYSCA funding and greater access for new applicants. The associations cover a range of services.
