Heracles Almelo has decided not to make a tour of the city before the ceremony on Sunday afternoon. The champion of the first division has taken this decision following a tragic accident with a champion car on Saturday afternoon in Yerseke. A 5-year-old girl was killed.
“Heracles Almelo sympathizes with the relatives. After consultation with the Municipality of Almelo and the transporter, we think it is currently inappropriate to celebrate the championship on the flat cart,” the club said in a statement on its own website.
Celebrations in the city center will continue
The team of coach John Lammers became champion on Friday evening after a 2-0 win over Jong Ajax. Promotion was secured some time ago, but after the victory and the lack of a big victory by PEC Zwolle, the Almelo team became champions on goal difference.
The celebration for that achievement in the center of Almelo will continue. The selection will take the players bus from the stadium directly to the city center to show the champion scale to the supporters on the Market Square.
