The Women’s Center has closed the events of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women with the show ‘Hembrita’. A very personal proposal by Akaida Orozco and Eduardo Ravara to stir consciences, to make people reflect on gender stereotypes and prejudices towards women, towards those born female from Ancient Greece to the present day. Through dance, video art, images and quotes from historical figures, politicians, and renowned scientists, the Venezuelan artist, who settled seven years ago in Almagro, “made it uncomfortable” to leave the Municipal Theater thinking about those sexist social clichés that surround us. , stigmas about violence against those born female and continuing to move towards an egalitarian society.
The show offers a critical perspective on the patriarchal stigma that begins from the moment of birth and persists in women’s lives. Its authors seek to question violence against people born female, highlighting how the patriarchal system shapes their gender roles.
The choreographic creation is the work of Akaida Orozco, who plays the main role. The audiovisual creation is by Eduardo Ravara. The texts are by Alejandra Laprea, Oriana and Akaida Orozco.
The Councilor for Women, Conchi Ledesma, attended the staging of this production that explores the metaphor of movement, the poetics of the word and the richness of audiovisuals, translated into video art and video dance.
