Heavy rain washed away ancient sacrificial offerings in Greece

An archaeologist saw one of the horns of the bull figure protrude from the ground, according to the Greek Ministry of Culture.

The figure, which is very well preserved, has been examined and is currently estimated to be from the period between 1050 and 700 years before our era.

Clear burn marks on deposits on the figure mean that the bull is believed to have been a sacrificial offering used in the worship of the god Zeus at Olympos, according to the ministry.

It is believed that thousands of such offerings were made at the altar of Zeus. Many of them have been found in a thick layer of ash and are on display at the Archaeological Museum in Olympos.
