Kochi: In view of the heavy rain warning, the district collector has announced a holiday for all educational institutions including professional colleges in Ernakulam district tomorrow. The Collector has clarified that the holiday is applicable to all educational institutions including Anganwadis, Kendriya Vidyalayas, State, CBSE and ICSE schools.

A red alert was announced in Ernakulam today. It has been raining heavily since morning in the district, but the rain has subsided for a few hours in the evening. The district administration issued cautionary instructions to various departments and the general public in the event that a severe rain warning has been issued in the district. Tehsildars were instructed to set up a control room at the taluk offices and to immediately form squads and start operations. Quarry operations should be stopped for 24 hours after the rains subside. The officials of the concerned centers have also instructed the people in the areas where the threat of landslides continues to stay away. Tetrapod seawalls are present in Chellanam region so there are no major problems during rainy season.
However, water entered the houses due to the sea attack in the Puliyatham Paramba area of Nairambalam. After the geobag and sandbags broke, the water rushed to the shore. Two cars were damaged when a part of a tree fell on Kochi Dhanushkodi National Highway near Putankurish Police Station. The vehicle of the police officers who were on duty at the police station was damaged. At present there is no significant waterlogging in Kochi city.
Tomorrow’s rain alert in the state is as follows
A red alert has been announced in Idukki and Kannur districts tomorrow. Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kasaragod districts will be on orange alert tomorrow. A yellow alert has also been announced in Kollam tomorrow.
