Health restrictions lifted to visit Finland | Europe up to date | D.W.

The Finnish Ministry of the Interior reported this Monday (06.20.2022) that as of June 30, the sanitary restrictions to enter the country, imposed more than two years ago with the outbreak of the coronavirus, will be lifted.

As detailed by the Interior portfolio in a statement, the country’s health authorities have assessed that, with the current epidemiological situation, “there are no health reasons for the restrictions.”

Thus, foreign tourists will no longer be required to present a vaccination certificate or negative test for COVID-19, bringing border controls back to the point before the pandemic.

With this measure, the Finnish government hopes that the flow of international tourists will increase, especially on the eastern border with Russia due to “Russians’ desire to travel and the number of valid visas.”

Finally, the Ministry of the Interior said that the Border Guard will continue to monitor “the phenomena related to border security together with national and international partners.”

The Finnish health authorities have confirmed more than 1.1 million coronavirus infections since the start of the pandemic, while they have mourned more than 4,770 deaths from the virus. (EuropePress)
