Health joins the commemoration of the International Day of Action for Women’s Health : Press Government of Mendoza

Every May 28, actions are carried out around the world to remind women of the importance of gynecological controls.

Cervical cancer and breast cancer are the most prevalent and their early detection makes it possible, with great effectiveness, to reduce disease and mortality (morbidity and mortality) due to these causes.

The prevention of cervical cancer begins with vaccination against the Human Papilloma Virus at age 11 and continues with screening tests: Pap smear and HPV test from 25 and 30 years respectively, up to 65 years.

This year and with its own resources, the Ministry of Health, Social Development and Sports of the Province implemented the HPV test in the prevention of cervical cancer for all those women without private health coverage. Access to this technology (the detection of the Human Papillomavirus by PCR) places our province at the highest international standards in the prevention of cervical cancer.

As for the early detection of breast cancer, it is carried out through self-examination and breast examination by a gynecologist until the age of 40, and from that age it is recommended to perform mammograms regularly until the age of 75.

Women should know that both in public and private health, they have the right to undergo screening tests (periodic controls) without the need for a prior medical order, as long as they are within the age range.

Much progress has been made in the prevention and treatment of these diseases. It is the duty of the Health authorities to strive for awareness in the general population, but also in the medical community, the media, social works, NGOs, families and the general population.
