Health: do you retain water? Here are 5 effective tips to deflate!

par Rino Gallo

Fluid retention, also called “edema,” is a build-up of water in tissue that affects women more than men.

Do you have permanently swollen legs and ankles? Having trouble removing your rings? Then you are probably suffering from water retention. This can be related to poor blood circulation, a diet that is too high in salt, a hormonal imbalance or a lack of physical activity.

Here are some tips to adopt daily to avoid water retention

  1. Eat a diet rich in fiber. Foods with a natural diuretic power like cauliflower, cucumbers or broccoli greatly help eliminate. Also, avoid adding too much salt to your dishes and don’t snack between meals.
  2. Take lingonberry extract. In addition to having a detoxifying effect, it will protect you from possible urinary tract infections. Available in all good pharmacies.
  3. Play sports. Engaging in regular physical activity, such as aquabiking, running, or cycling, helps get rid of excess salts in the body.
  4. Get enough sleep. Sleep rests the renal system which controls the elimination of salt and water in our body. It is also best to sleep with your legs raised enough for better circulation.
  5. Drink an average of 1.5 to 2 liters of water per day. It is also better to reduce your alcohol consumption.
