(Vancouver = Yonhap News) Correspondent Jo Jae-yong = Health Canada approved the use of a bivalent vaccine developed by Pfizer-BioNtech Co., Ltd. against Omicron, a Corona virus submutant 19, on 7 (local time) .

This vaccine was developed to respond to both the early Corona virus 19 and the sub-variant Omicron BA.4 · BA.5. According to local media, it is used as a booster injection for people over 12 years of age 3 to 6 months after the second vaccination.

“The recently approved booster vaccine elicits a strong immune response against the existing COVID-19 virus and the sub-variant Omicron,” the Ministry of Health said in a statement.

A Ministry of Health official said: “We will ensure sufficient supply to meet the anticipated demand for booster shots for Omicron in the fall.”

According to the Ministry of Health, 88% of new COVID-19 patients in mid-March were infected with BA.5 and 9% with BA.4, respectively.

Earlier last month, the Ministry of Health approved the use of a bivalent vaccine developed by Moderna that targets the Omicron BA.1 submutation.
