Christmas city instead of Christmas village – Einbecker Morgenpost

Einbeck. Christmas flair on the market square, stalls with handicrafts, wood carvings and regional specialties – the planning was already completed, but Covid-19 does not make it possible: The traditional Christmas village on the Einbeck market square cannot take place this year.
However, Einbeck Marketing is working on an alternative Christmas concept and, if the development of infections and Corona regulations allow, will invite you to the tranquil Christmas city in December.

»The Christmas markets have already been canceled across Germany. It is also not possible for us to realize the small Einbeck Christmas village. Common sense and health have top priority in these difficult times, «explains Anja Barlen-Herbig, Managing Director of Einbeck Marketing. “However, it is also important to us to support the Einbeck showmen and dealers for whom the Christmas business is essential. We are therefore trying to distribute the 15 or so huts and stalls throughout the city center. In this way, crowds of people can be avoided and distance and hygiene regulations can be observed. If Christmas City is possible, the stalls in the city center will open on December 1st. «

One-way system in front of the stands, disinfectant dispensers, Plexiglas panes as protection, food and drinks to-go and hourly disinfection of surfaces are essential components of the concept.

In the coming week, a decision on corona measures is expected at the federal level by the end of the year. “Chancellor Angela Merkel wants to take stock of the success of the current measures with the Prime Ministers of the federal states in mid-November – if there is further tightening, we will of course not be able to implement the Christmas City.”

Irrespective of this, the inner city of Einbeck should also be in the mood for Christmas this year; The Christmas lights will be installed by the first weekend in Advent, decorated Christmas trees will be set up throughout the city center, and the large Christmas tree on the market square and the sparkling lights of the candle arches will also be there again this year.

»We received support from numerous companies and citizens for the Christmas lights. We are very pleased, thank you very much! We regularly update the list of supporters. We are currently missing 2,000 euros of the 16,000 euros. We would be very happy if we could find sponsors for this too, «says Anja Barlen-Herbig.
