The Ministry of Health announced this Tuesday night that third and fourth booster doses will be enabled to reactivate the population’s immune system, in the face of a possible fifth wave of Covid-19. The objective is also to increase the percentage of vaccination, after the arrival of the BA2 variant was confirmed.
“Given the identification of this variant, we must recommend that the Bolivian population go to the vaccination centers. Let’s increase the percentages of vaccination, only in this way will we be able to protect ourselves from an eventual fifth wave,” exhorted the Minister of Health, Jeyson Auza, before the press.

The authority explained that the BA2 variant of Ómicron is 1.5 times more dangerous than the BA1 variant.
“The third doses, those that reactivate our immune system, are the ones that have been shown to be most effective,” the authority said.
Consequently, the third doses of the vaccines will be available to the entire population of any age group. “The fourth doses are also available for all those people who have already passed between four and six months of their last dose, the annual booster dose,” the authority clarified.
Auza reported that the country used only 57% of the immunization doses available to date. “We have made the decision to move the vaccination centers to each of the health centers, to facilitate the population,” he said.
