Jill McLaren conducted secret meetings with the man she knew from the secure clinic in Glasgow where she worked, according to what was reported by the website. Daily Mail.
The 37-year-old mother of two took him to her home under the guise of a Christmas shopping trip.
McLaren pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to a charge of engaging in sexual activity with or directing the victim to engage in sexual activity while working at a hospital where a mentally ill person was being treated.
The crime extended between July 2018 and September 2019.
Prosecutors accepted not guilty pleas to similar allegations that she was involved with two other patients.
McLaren, from Greenock, was yesterday sentenced to 180 hours of unpaid work, placed on probation for 18 months and placed on probation for five months, and kept indoors between 9pm and 6am from Sunday to Friday.
She was also placed on the sex offenders’ register for 18 months.
Sheriff Gerard Considine said: “There is no doubt that this was a serious breach of trust… The law protects people with mental disorders… and this behavior was wrong…. I used a false name to contact him, which is an aggravating feature. “It was the case with the location and time involved.”
The court previously heard how the nurse and the man talked about their shared love of fitness and then began flirting with each other. “They started kissing in the closet,” said Fiscal Lauren Donnelly.
The duo agreed that if McLaren wanted to speak to him outside the clinic, she would have to use a pseudonym.
The nurse woke the man up one evening during a night shift by shining a torch in his face.
She then performed a sexual act in his bedroom.
The court heard that the couple had gone for a walk apparently so they could buy Christmas presents.
Instead they ended up at her house where sexual contact occurred.
McLaren left her permanent position at the unit in August 2019. But she continued to work shifts, and during one of them, an argument occurred after McLaren ended the relationship.
A nurse on the unit later received a phone call asking about the man and recognized McLaren’s voice.
The man’s mental health deteriorated after he learned that staff were aware of the relationship.
He later told his lawyer what was happening and McLaren was arrested.
