Hazy Days: The Arrival of Sahara Sand in Norway Explained by the Meteorological Institute

Have you noticed that it is extra hazy outside during the day? That is the question the Meteorological Institute asks on its website. .

They don’t just ask the question, they also have the answer to why there is so much haze. And the start is very far from Lofoten.

– The reason for this comes from far away, and is due to sand from the Sahara being transported by the wind towards Norway, Met.no informs

The picture from http://meteo.gr shows where the sand is today, and there you can see that the sand has arrived in Lofoten.

It is not the first time that sand from the Sahara has taken a trip north. It is the direction of the wind, preferably in combination with high pressure/low pressure, that we can notice the sand that mostly looks like dust.

– In dry weather, we can often notice that cars and other smooth surfaces get a layer of dust when we are visited by Sahara dust, and in winter it has happened that fresh snow has turned red if it contains such long-distance dust, writes astroevents.no.

If you discover the sand from the Sahara, please send us a picture of it [email protected]
