Hawaii: Pierro Coutant wins the Hawaian Adaptive Surfing Championships!

Remember! A few weeks ago, we spoke to you about Pierro Coutant, this deaf surfer and surf instructor in Anglet. His dream was to participate in Handisurf Worlds which took place at Hawaii and many of you helped him in this project via his pot Ecosea.

Thanks to you, Pierro was not only able to go to Waikiki to fight these Hawaian Adaptive Surfing Championships, but yesterday the Frenchman also won! A feat all the greater since no Habs had ever set foot at the Handisurf Worlds in Hawaii.

The 29-year-old surfer born deaf has overcome his handicap step by step. Native Brine where he was born, Pierre-Olivier subsequently moved to the side of the meeting at the age of 10. After a forced return precipitated by the shark crisis, this passionate surfing enthusiast, with incredible strength of character, is going to live out his dreams one after the other.

The latest? His victory yesterday at the Handisurf Worlds in Hawaii, project that had been close to his heart for some time now. An example !

In nice interview given to our colleagues at Beachbrother before the Worlds, Pierro Coutant had returned on its beginnings: I didn’t like sign language, it scared me, so I started to work on lip reading by myself “. By dint of courage and self-sacrifice, Pierro becomes a surf instructor at Anglet Surf Club. I teach my students to communicate well, and I always have them in my field of vision (…). Yes i believe that the students may be a little more attentive because of my disability. I notice it when I see the other teachers shouting “Listen to me !!” that rarely happens to me “(laughs).

No doubt that on his return to France, Pierro will be welcomed as he should at his home on the side from Anglet. His performance and courage did not go unnoticed despite the competition being over 12,000 kilometers from his home. Well done champion!
