Hawaii and the WSL finally agree!

All’s well That ends well ! After the bellicose episode between la WSL to the Honolulu Town Hall concerning the organization of the Pipe Masters and the Volcom Pipe Pro and the dispute concerning Da Hui Backdoor especially, 2018 will not have been a long quiet river for the WSL and the Hawaiian authorities. However, it seems that 2019 is getting off to a better start and for surfing in general, that’s good!

Hawaii, the world of surfing, the WSL, pro surfers … Everyone can finally breathe.

The WSL announced this weekend that the Honolulu Town Hall had accepted competition permits for the next 3 years (a historic first). Little or no change therefore for the majority of Hawaiian events and this, until 2021. The local government seems to have understood the economic importance of what the (many) made in competitions represent. WSL at Hawaii.

Here is how the events will be organized on the North Shore between 2019 and 2021:

Da Hui managed to get a 4-day permit to organize his prestigious tube competition paying homage to Duke Kahanamoku. No change regarding thee Pipe Pro, despite all the questions and uncertainties that hovered over the event. Sunset and Haleiwa remain the first 2 stages of the Triple Crown with the Pipe Masters. The WSL also gave up organizing the Pipe Masters at the beginning of the year. Yes, you have to know how to compromise and Pipe Masters remains where it should be, namely at the very end of the season.

Pipe is coming back (at least) for 3 years!

“Hawaii is an integral part of surfing and is a very important community for the WSL” specified Sophie Goldschmidt, patron of the WSL through a press release. “The validation of these permits is a big step forward, so that the best surfers in the world continue to test themselves on the best waves. It also guarantees the events the possibility of developing infrastructures and support for the future local talents of tomorrow. “.
