Has discovered unknown hepatitis variant in children in several countries

Following the United Kingdom reporting cases of acute hepatitis of unknown origin, further cases in children in Denmark, Ireland, the Netherlands and Spain have also been reported.

This is stated by the European Infection Control Agency ECDC.

In addition, nine cases of acute hepatitis among children between the ages of 1 and 6 have been reported in the state of Alabama in the United States, which also tested positive for adenovirus.

Please follow closely

TV 2 has been in contact with the National Institute of Public Health as to whether cases have also been discovered in Norway.

They state that they are investigating the case, and have no further comments.

To ABC News says chief physician for infection control in FHI Preben Aavitsland that they ask Norwegian hospitals to follow closely.

– We ask the pediatric wards at the country’s hospitals to be vigilant, says Aavitsland.

– Serious phenomenon

The ECDC further writes that investigations are underway in all countries that have reported cases.

– What we see now is a serious phenomenon, where children who were completely healthy a few days ago, suddenly become seriously ill, says the British pediatrician Deirdre Kelly to Science.

The WHO’s regional office in Europe writes in an email to the magazine that this should be taken seriously.

– The increase is unexpected and the common causes are ruled out, writes WHO.

No deaths have been reported so far in connection with the outbreak.

According to FHI, viral hepatitis is a collective term for diseases caused by various viruses. Several viruses can attack the liver and cause similar symptoms, but the viruses have very different properties.

The case is being updated!
