China detects 1 local case of covid after a week without such infections

Beijing, Feb 15 (EFE) .- China registered this Sunday a case of covid-19 by local transmission after seven consecutive days without detecting infections of this type, the National Health Commission reported today.

The contagion was detected in Hebei province, the scene of one of the outbreaks registered in the north of the country at the end of December.

Likewise, China recorded a total of 8 imported cases in the cities of Shanghai (east, 1) and Tianjin (north, 1), and in the provinces of Guangzhou (south, 4), Henan (center, 1) and Shaanxi (north , 1).

On the other hand, the health authorities also reported today the detection of 10 asymptomatic infections, all of them from abroad. The total of this type of infections under observation is 396, of which 283 are “imported”.

The National Health Commission detailed that, until last local midnight (16:00 GMT on Sunday), 61 patients were discharged, and one came out of serious condition.

The total number of active infected in mainland China stood at 637, of which 11 are serious.

The institution noted that, since the start of the pandemic, 89,772 people have been infected in the country, of which 4,636 died.

To date, 974,265 close contacts with infected people have been followed up, of which 10,129 are still under observation.

Meanwhile, the total of infected in the semi-autonomous city of Hong Kong amounted to 10,779 people since the pandemic began, of which 193 perished.

Since the end of last December, northeast China suffered several outbreaks of SARS-CoV-2, the worst since March 2020, specifically in the provinces of Hebei, Heilongjiang, Jilin and also in some districts of Beijing.

The authorities applied selective confinements, carried out massive tests in the most affected areas and quarantined close contacts of those infected.

These measures seem to have made it possible to contain the outbreaks, which ran the risk of worsening with the numerous displacements planned these days for the lunar New Year festivities, which began last Friday, February 12. EFE
