Continental Hockey Leagues (KHL) team Omsk “Avangard”, which is trained by the co-pilot of the Latvian hockey team Bob Hartley, announced a budget cut compared to last season. The former president of the club Maksims Sušinskis has also lost his position.

The meeting of the club’s board of directors discussed the financial possibilities of the Omsk club in the upcoming 2020/2021 KHL championship, deciding to reduce the club’s funding by 24% compared to the previous season.

Also, taking into account the reduction of the budget, it was decided to optimize the management process and change the organizational structure of the club, reducing the number of senior officials of the club by one third. As a result, the positions of president and vice president in the Avangard team have been abolished, leaving the position to the club’s current president, Maxim Sušinski, who has spent the last two years in the unit. Avangard executives will now report to only one governing body, the club’s general manager.

It has already been reported that starting from next season, KHL’s salary ceiling will be 900 million rubles or 10.86 million euros, but the amount of the salary floor is set at 270 million rubles (3.26 million euros).

Avangard finished last season in the third place in the Eastern Conference, but in the first round of the Gagarin Cup, they recognized the superiority of Ufa’s “Salavat Yulaev” with a result of 2-4.

2019/2020. The 2006 KHL season was suspended in March, but was subsequently declared premature due to a coronavirus pandemic. The upcoming KHL season should start on September 2, but the rapid deterioration of the epidemiological situation in the whole country may affect the changes in the start date of the 2020/2021 regular season.
