Harassment allegations: New York Governor Cuomo refuses to resign

“I now understand that I behaved in a way that made people feel uncomfortable. That was not my intention and I sincerely and deeply apologize for it, ”said the 63-year-old at a press conference on Wednesday. “I feel terrible about it, and to be honest, I am embarrassed.” Cuomo also reiterated that he had “never touched anyone inappropriately.”

Cuomo promised he would fully cooperate with an investigation initiated by New York Attorney General Letitia James – but at the same time made it clear: “I will not resign.” Cuomo urged residents of his New York state to await the results of the investigation before forming an opinion.

Three women had previously accused Cuomo, who was elected for a third term in 2018, of inappropriately touching or verbally harassing them in the past. Several politicians, including democratic party colleagues, then called on the governor to resign.
