Handball: A great victory for a good maintenance for the JDA which dominates Mérignac

This Friday evening, at the Palais des Sports in Dijon, the had the opportunity to validate its maintenance by receiving the red lantern of the championship. Even if they had already won the first two confrontations against these same opponents in the play-downs, nothing was written in advance. With a controlled match, the girls managed to win this meeting (32-24) and give themselves the opportunity to play at the end of the season a little less stressful. They will play well in the 2021/2022 season.

The JDA had no time to wait

You shouldn’t be late in front of your screen to follow the live broadcast of the match on the club’s Facebook Live. After a presentation of the teams during which, we had the pleasure of seeing Manon Gravelle back after an absence of several months, following a serious injury, the locals did not waste much time to warm up. In five minutes, Carmen Campos, Joanna Lathoud and Claire Vautier already allow to widen the gap (5 ′, 3-0). The latter credits us with a very good start to the match with already two recoveries of balls, Mérignac not finding the solution in attack and encountering a good Dijon defense. We also note a beautiful aggressiveness in defense which already promises us a lively meeting on the physical level: Joanna Lathoud and Ilona Di Rocco are quickly warned by the referees. But Mérignac does not intend to abdicate so quickly and returns to the game thanks to a double from Dazet and a hat-trick in two minutes from Van Olphen (20 ′, 9-7), taking advantage of a two-minute suspension imposed on Ilona Di Rocco . Goalkeeper Falcon is already making several decisive saves. But Puleri will also be penalized by two minutes and Carmen Campos will transform the granted 7m throw into two times. The physical fight is more and more present: Ilona Di Rocco is shaken several times but remains solid. This is the last time that Mérignac will approach two units in the game thanks to a new goal from Van Olphen, she who will finish at 5/9 and top scorer of her team (26 ′, 11-9). The end of the period is 100% JDA and it ends as it had started with a 3-0 offered by our German pivot Saskia Weisheitel and the inevitable Céline Siversten and Carmen Campos impressive over this first period (71% at 5/7 so two jets of 7m successful). The statistics are already to the advantage of the locals with 63% shooting efficiency, fewer penalties and five goals ahead thanks to a strong start and a new boost before reaching the locker room.

Although ayany received a red card, CARMEN campos was once again elected player of the match. When the game resumes, it is Marie Lachat who finds herself in the cages, she who disputed a few moments of the end of the first act by replacing Christina Elm who will post a small ratio of 20% of saves tonight (2/10). On the side of Mérignac, it is another good acquaintance of Dijon who presents himself: Léna Le Borgne, who left the club at the last transfer window. The first scorer of the meeting, Claire Vautier definitely likes going out of the locker room and is once again the first after two minutes of play in the second act. She will also finish co-top scorer of the meeting at 58% and 7/12. The first minutes are balanced but Dijon remains clean in defense and Ilona Di Rocco twice intercepts precious balls, she who will finish at 100% efficiency (4/4) in a successful match. A new acceleration will be fatal to the Girondines with a 5-1 conceded in just five minutes (41 ′, 22-14). Carmen Campos also goes about her interception and prevents Mérignac from obtaining any hope of a saving return in this second act. Elise Delorme then saw her attempt rejected by Le Borgne. But some signs do not deceive because Ilona Di Rocco, despite a shot blocked by the defense, will succeed in deceiving the goalkeeper thanks to a crazy trajectory: the luck factor, too, has decided to be on the side of Dijon this evening. But Mérignac keeps his head high and takes advantage of a small series of 3-1 to return to the score (48 ′, 25-19). Then, on a harmless 7m throw, Carmen Campos will center her attempt too much and the goalkeeper receives the ball between her shoulder and her cheek which will ring her out for a few moments. The referees stop the clock and put their hands in their pockets: it is a red card for Carmen. It’s a little harsh because the goalkeeper sagged and found herself in the path of the ball but the rules were applied. This fact of play will not however disturb more than that Dijon (53 ′, 28-23). Dijon will then finish this game very well with a 4-1 which will leave no room for doubt. Marie Lachat takes care of her statistics at the end of the period with in particular… a stop with a ball which touches her head, but the whistles of the two referees will remain without breath blown. She will confirm her form with a new stop on a last throw of 7m, it is “the cherry on the cake” for Dijon, she who will finish at 27% for 6/22. The referees whistle well this time the end of the match and the Dijon bench explodes (our photo) to celebrate the maintenance acquired thanks to this fine performance. A handball floor that will then serve as a stage for expression and improvisation theater with cries, smiles, dances and all kinds of madness. They do these images good, in a particular context. Despite the absence of the public, Christophe Mazel’s daughters have made a success of their season and do not intend to stop there. Temporarily occupying first place in these play-downs, the objective will of course now be to keep it and this now means a good performance from Saint-Amand on Wednesday, which had done a lot of harm at home to the Dijon.

Dijon persists and signs; Carmen sees red
