Hanau: Assassins apparently contacted authorities long before the crime

Dthe alleged Hanau assassin is said to have filed criminal complaints with the persecution authorities shortly after the turn of the millennium. In his letter of confession, R. specifically refers to criminal charges from the years 2002 and 2004. The alleged reason at the time: “illegal surveillance”.

Corresponding information on one of the processes was confirmed to WELT by a former acquaintance of R. According to his own information, he was involved at the time.

The public prosecutor’s office in Hanau did not want to comment on request and referred the GBA to the Federal Attorney General because of the ongoing investigations. The latter said that the information on alleged criminal charges should be checked.

In the past few months, R. has reported to the federal prosecutor’s office. In fact, he already addressed a letter to the GBA in November.

The 19-page document, which is available to WELT, is largely identical to the letter of confession to the act of Thursday. It is still unclear whether the letter actually reached the GBA.

It is relevant that R. turned to German authorities months, if not years, before his alleged deed, because his potential risk may have been underestimated.

Authorities must also now consider the extent to which the granting of a weapons license was justified at all. R. had a gun ownership card as a marksman and was legally in possession of three pistols.
