Hamburg Senate advises on tightening the Corona rules | NDR.de – news

Status: 10.12.2020 7:25 a.m.

Germany is discussing a hard lockdown – but the Senate in Hamburg is still keeping a low profile. A decision will be made here too by the weekend: The next Corona summit of the country leaders with Chancellor Angela Merkel will probably take place on Sunday.

The question is no longer whether there will be further cuts in Hamburg – just: How tough will they be? And when will they apply? Hamburg’s second mayor Katharina Fegebank (Greens) spoke on Wednesday evening in the Hamburg Journal of NDR television about the time after Christmas – and before New Year’s Eve: “I do believe that we will come to stricter measures after Christmas.” Science did given clear recommendations – and one has so far also oriented oneself to science.

“We definitely have to do something now”

A relaxation of the corona rules over the turn of the year, as it was originally planned, is unlikely due to the increasing number of infections. The Senate is in the process of discussing this and decisions will be made in the next few days. “We have not achieved a trend reversal through this slight lockdown,” said Fegebank, saying the high corona numbers are worrying. “We definitely have to do something now.”

Tightening before Christmas?

On Wednesday evening, Schleswig-Holstein announced a tough lockdown by Christmas at the latest. From the Hamburg Senate and the authorities, we can hear that there are even considerations in Hamburg to significantly tighten the rules before Christmas. Much will depend on how the corona numbers develop in Hamburg by the end of the week.

Merkel’s appeal in the Bundestag

On Wednesday morning, Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) pronounced for a sharper course in the corona pandemic. In view of the high number of cases, the contacts have to be reduced, she said in the Bundestag. The increasing number of corona deaths is not acceptable. “And because the numbers are the way they are, we have to do something, the federal and state governments together.”
