Hamburg Halloween Riots: Police Deploy Water Cannons in Harburg Area

In Hamburg, there were riots on Halloween evening – the police were on duty for several hours and used water cannons in the Harburg area.

The portal reports this, as European Pravda writes. NDR.

According to a police spokesman, initially between 150 and 200 mostly young people gathered in the Harburg area. Then their number increased to 300-350. They threw firecrackers and bottles into the crowd and at emergency workers. Several people were injured.

At first the police could not control the situation. Only when reinforcements arrived did officers regain control of the situation and were able to disperse the rioting crowd. Water cannons were also used.

There have been arrests or detentions, a police spokesman said. Their number is not known exactly. There were also anti-Semitic statements.

There were also incidents in the Lurup area, which, according to police, involved about 50 young people. They set firecrackers on fire, damaging store windows and setting trash containers on fire.

According to police, about 70 people gathered in the Osdorf area. Officials expelled mostly young people from the area around the Born Center. About 100 people gathered in Steilshoop. They set off fireworks and probably fired blanks into the air. “Police officers immediately intervened and issued an order to stop the protest, which the troublemakers complied with,” the police said.

The police deployed the entire Hamburg special forces, police commissioner alarm units and hundreds of federal police officers throughout the city.

A year ago on Halloween, the Hamburg police already had a lot of work to do. This year, the city authorities wanted to create an alternative proposal with a horror tent on Harburg’s town hall square – apparently without success.

Previously German politicians sharply criticized demonstrations in Berlin, whose participants rejoiced at the Hamas attack on Israel, and Chancellor Scholz announced a ban supporting the activities of the terrorist organization Hamas.
