Hamburg and Saxony-Anhalt do not want corona tests for everyone

Unlike Bavaria, Saxony-Anhalt and Hamburg initially do not want their citizens to be nationwide CoronaEnable tests.

“In view of the comparatively low infection rate in Saxony-Anhalt, the Ministry of Health currently considers it more expedient to continue to find chains of infection immediately in order to quickly extinguish infection sites,” said a spokesman for the Ministry of Health in the state. One example is the most recent tests in the meat industry, where the state and local authorities had organized nationwide tests.

Hamburg also does not want to introduce corona tests for everyone. A spokesman for the Hamburg Senate said that the Robert Koch Institute does not consider it unsuitable to carry out tests.

As of Monday, daycare workers in Berlin can be tested for the corona virus without symptoms. The Governing Mayor said Michael Müller (SPD) the “Daily mirror”. Müller announced that the offer “probably in the second half of July” will also be open to all school employees. For the tests, people should initially come to the Charité’s central test center in the Virchow Clinic. With regard to Bavaria, Müller said: “It is right to offer more testing options.”

Bavaria’s Minister of Health Melanie Huml (CSU) had announced that everyone in the Free State would soon be able to be tested for the novel corona virus, even without symptoms. The Free State wants to cover the costs, provided the health insurers do not step in. Huml called this the “Corona test offensive”.

Lauterbach: mass test in autumn necessary

Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn (CDU) reacted cautiously. “Extensive testing makes sense, especially in order to quickly contain regional outbreaks. To this end, we adapted the federal test concept weeks ago,” he said on Sunday to the German Press Agency in Berlin. Additional test offers by the federal states could complement this. “However, a test is always just a snapshot. It must not weigh in the wrong safety.”

The SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach calls for a targeted strategy. Basically, Bavaria’s approach is correct. “However, we have to make sure that the right people are tested and that the tests themselves become cheaper,” said Lauterbach of the Funke media group. Mass tests are necessary in autumn.
