Hamas Leader Yahya Sinwar Spotted with Family in Gaza Tunnels
In a rare sighting, Hamas’ top official in Gaza, Yahya Sinwar, was captured on a surveillance camera running through the terror group’s underground network with his family, according to Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).
The newly released video footage displays Sinwar’s family moving through a tunnel beneath Khan Younis on October 10. The group was accompanied by Sinwar’s brother, Ibrahim, who led the way with a flashlight in hand. Sinwar’s wife, along with a little girl and two young boys, followed closely behind.
Despite being considered the mastermind behind a recent massacre on October 7, Yahya Sinwar was spotted near the rear of the line, holding a flashlight in one hand and a bag in the other. The group eventually disappeared from view.
This video was captured from a surveillance camera in the Khan Younis tunnels, which have been the target of ongoing Israeli operations to locate and apprehend Sinwar since the IDF surrounded his home in December, as reported by The Times of Israel.
Manhunt for Sinwar Continues
“The hunt for Sinwar will not stop, until we catch him, dead or alive,” said IDF Spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, addressing the reporters on Tuesday.
Admiral Hagari emphasized that capturing Sinwar is of paramount importance, as it would help gather critical intelligence and potentially lead to the rescue of hostages held by Hamas.
Sinwar Utilizes Hamas’ Tunnel System to Evade Capture
Following the October 7 massacre, Yahya Sinwar has successfully evaded the advancing IDF troops by exploiting Hamas’ extensive 300-mile-long tunnel network.
In November, IDF claimed to have located Sinwar inside an underground bunker in northern Gaza. On December 6, the Israeli military believed they had cornered him inside his home in Khan Younis. However, Sinwar’s exact location has been uncertain since late December, with Israeli Channel 12 reporting that Hamas had lost contact with their leader many weeks ago. It remains unclear if Sinwar has been in communication blackouts or if he is evading capture by going underground.
No Comment from Hamas on Sinwar’s Whereabouts
Hamas has refrained from commenting on the recent video or the location of its leader in Gaza. However, speculations have emerged that Sinwar may be in hiding in Rafah, Gaza’s most populous city, which is currently housing over 1.4 million refugees.
