Halep falls down in Paris due to panic attack: ‘I completely lost it’ | NOW

Simona Halep was attacked by a panic attack during her second round match at Roland Garros on Thursday. The 2018 champion then lost in three sets to nineteen-year-old Chinese debutant Zheng Qinwen: 2-6, 6-2 and 6-1.

Thirty-year-old Halep asked the doctor for the job at the end of the first set she had won. “It was a panic attack,” said the Romanian after her match.

“I didn’t know how to react to it because I don’t have to deal with it often. I led the game, I played well, but I completely lost it. I couldn’t focus anymore.”

Halep, who was the world number one from 2017 to 2019 and won Wimbledon in 2019, said that she was having a hard time after the game. “But now it’s going again. I’ve recovered and I’m learning from this moment. It was nothing dangerous. The doctors checked everything and everything was fine.”

The young Zheng, the global number 74, has never been in the main tournament of Roland Garros before. She made her Grand Slam debut at the Australian Open early this year. In Melbourne she made it to the second round.

In the next round, Zheng will face Alizé Cornet, the number forty in the world.
