Hair loss could be one of the symptoms of COVID19 noticed by 1/3 of infected people, new study finds

Hair loss could be one of the symptoms of the coronavirus. This is the result of a study conducted on Facebook on 1,500 patients affected by Covid-19. The investigation was carried out by Professor Natalie Lambert of Indiana University and a group of coronavirus survivors, members of the Survivor Corps, reports the New York Post.

A third of the people polled saw more loss of their hair since they were infected with the virus.

In all, the study revealed 98 potential symptoms of the coronavirus, of which 26.5% are painful. According to Professor Lambert, these new symptoms include “severe nerve pain, difficulty concentrating, sleep disturbances, blurred vision and even hair loss.”

The latter would be a telogen effluvium: an abundant loss of non-localized hair which can be caused by intense stress. This loss typically begins three months after the stressful event, the NYP says.

Various studies have already reported 17 persistent symptoms of Covid-19, including fever, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, loss of taste or smell, diarrhea and vomiting.
