Hackers try to poison search engines with over 100,000 malicious websites

Security researcher at Exempt now warns of the discovery of over 100,000 unique web pages that claim to contain popular pdf files but which in fact try to install trojans on the visitor’s computer, reports The Hacker News.

The websites use popular business phrases, keywords and pdf documents for standardized forms and templates to deceive users from search engines. The pages look legitimate but the victims are redirected without knowledge and tricked into installing Trojans.

The Trojans are in turn used by the attackers to access the victim’s computer and install additional malware such as bank trojans, ransomware and programs that steal sensitive information.

According to Esentire, the hackers seem to target victims who work in the financial sector in particular.
