Hackers took control of Gates or Musk’s Twitter accounts. And they made good use of it

Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, Kanye West, Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Apple, Uber. This is an incomplete list of celebrities and companies that a few hours ago faced an attack on their Twitter accounts. Unknown hackers have been given the opportunity to publish on foreign profiles and in major celebrities and companies to use it directly and very easily. Just publish a message that followers have the opportunity to double their deposit by sending money to a specific account in bitcoins. “I want to repay my community with regard to Covid-19. I will double the bitcoins sent to my address below and send them back. The offer is valid for 30 minutes! ” reported the profiles of Elon Musk, Bill Gates, and others. And some users seem to be trapped. This hacker attack on Twitter from people allegedly lured $ 118,000 (approx. CZK 2.8 million).

How could something like this actually happen? After deleting the fraudulent tweets and several measures, Twitter representatives directly confirmed that the attackers chose several employees of this social network as their target. So hackers did not go directly to the credentials of celebrities and companies, but to the internal systems that allowed them to access them. Very clever and obviously dangerously easy. The damage itself, but also ordinary users are of course startled and criticized on Twitter. The total number of followers of all compromised accounts exceeds 300 million, which is a huge audience. The hacker attack on Twitter even prevented some other verified accounts (with a blue pipe) from being preventively blocked. For example, a profile of US President Donald Trump, which forced him to publish unconventionally on Facebook.
