GYM gets his license suspended

The promotion permit of the Yvon Michel Group (GYM) will be suspended for 15 days.

This is what Michel revealed on his Twitter account on Friday.

The organization received this sanction for presenting an exhibition fight between UFC veteran Patrick Côté and strongman Hugo Girard, on September 29, 2019, during a gala held at the Pierre-Charbonneau center, in Montreal.

It is the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux (RAJC) of Quebec, which punished GYM. The latter criticized the group for having held an “arranged” or “concerted” fight between the two stars.

A portion of the profiles of this gala was also given to a foundation helping disabled athletes which is sponsored by Hugo Girard.

The license suspension will be effective as soon as combat sports resume in Quebec, which are currently paralyzed by COVID-19.

Bleached

It was not only the organization of the fight between Côté and Girard that was criticized against GYM by the RAJC. In fact, she accused him of the presence of several members of organized crime inside the security perimeter reserved for officials, emergency services, the media and the organizer’s guests, on September 20, 2019,

Hells Angels Salvatore Cazzetta, Salvatore Brunetti, Yvon Tanguay, Stéphane Plouffe, David Lefebvre and Vincent Boulanger were sitting in the row just behind the one where Yvon Michel was at the event.

Michel’s business was, however, cleared in this case.

“GYM cleared the charges related to the presence of a criminal group on September 29, 2019, as well as those of the exercise of a license for the benefit of a third party and of undermining the good reputation of the sport”, wrote the promoter on his Twitter account.
