Guyanese shot dead in Suriname was a wanted criminal

The man who was shot dead in a vehicle near an apartment on Posrenstraat in Suriname on Sunday morning is the 26-year-old Guyanese known as Shemar Wilson.

He was wanted by Guyanese police for allegedly throwing a grenade at the Kaieteur News owner’s vehicle in 2016. Shemar has also been wanted by the French police since October 2022. He would probably have been involved in a murder after which he fled to Suriname.

According to eyewitnesses, suspicious persons had been observed in the immediate vicinity of the apartment since last night. Searching for the right moment this morning, the gunman fired several shots at the vehicle in which Shemar was sitting.

The victim suffered gunshot wounds to the head, abdomen, chest, arms and legs. After the act, the shooter got into a vehicle and fled in the direction of Kwattaweg.

Little is known about the motive behind the shooting incident. An English-speaking woman with whom Shemar was in the vehicle has been transferred to the police station in the interest of the investigation. The case has been handed over to the Capital Offenses Department of the Surinamese police, which will continue the investigation.

Waterkant.Net learns from the residents that after the shooting incident two people were in the victim’s car and probably left with a large amount of money.
