After a woman posted a photo of the house under construction on social media with the text: ‘That’s how I feel today’, half of the Netherlands suddenly had an opinion about Guus’s house. For example, the design was compared to a crematorium.
Guus and Manon are not happy with the comments. ”You think very quickly: what are you interfering with?” says Guus. The singer says that a lot of blood, sweat and tears went into the project. “We’ve been working on it for a year and a half. It wasn’t finished and it’s the only place that really belongs to us, so let it be ours.”
“The woman who posted the snapshot online was so shocked by all the consternation that she removed her social media a little later,” says Guus.

The reactions on Twitter were therefore not kind. ‘The house that Guus Meeuwis bought here in Tilburg and what it looks like now summarizes 2020’, someone wrote. “How on earth can the municipality approve that a 103 year old building in good condition is being demolished for this monstrosity,” tweeted another.

Guus and Manon have been engaged for a while now, but they still haven’t gotten married. The singer told last summer in The 538 Morning Show with Frank Dane on Radio 538 that their big day has been postponed for another year.
