Gutach-Bleibach: ZweiTälerLand and Black Forest Association continue on course for quality – training of the way control in Bleibach

In January 2016, the ZweiTälerLand (ZTL) was awarded for the first time by the German Hiking Association as a “quality region for hiking in Germany”. The first post-certification took place in 2019. The rating defines Germany-wide standards and thus guarantees a perfect hiking experience in the entire region. In order to continue to advertise with the label “quality region”, the certificate must be renewed every three years.

The Black Forest Association, in particular the volunteer road controllers and helpers in the Elztal-Nördlicher Breisgau district and the trails department of the Freiburg Main Association, played a significant role in the certification processes. The two partners ZweiTälerLand Tourismus and Schwarzwaldverein want to continue to adhere to the quality standards required for this.

For this reason, the district road warden Lorenz Wiehl and ZTL managing director Ulrike Weiß invited the volunteer road attendants and helpers to a training course on route marking and the other quality criteria to be met for a successful re-certification in Bleibach. The new ZTL managing director Nicola Kaatz also took the event as an opportunity to introduce herself to the team. The aim is to continue on the path we have chosen together.

According to the catalog of the German Hiking Association, a total of 44 criteria must be met, including from the areas of trail network, gastronomy and service for hikers. Above all, the optimal and sustainable waymarking is the focus of quality development and assurance.

In the entire ZTL there are 1007 km of hiking trails that have to be looked after, of which 745 km are local and 262 km supraregional or long-distance hiking trails. For the supraregional and long-distance hiking trails in the ZTL, 765 working hours were reported in the past year and 900 hours for the local routes.
The high quality promise is to be kept thanks to the excellent work of the numerous voluntary path markers who have now received training and further education. The aim is to receive the certificate again in January 2022.
