During a performance by a choir on the steps of Saint John the Divine Cathedral in New York, an unknown gunman opened fire. According to a police spokesman, the shots were aimed at the officers present. The shooter was shot and later died of his injuries.
There are no further reports of injuries, the New York police report. The shooter is said to have fired from a scaffolding.
The Christmas concert on the steps of the church was the first public performance at the church since the outbreak of the corona crisis in March. Images on social media (from before the shooting) show that quite a few people had come to this:
