Guardiola wants to let Haaland and Julian Alvarez loose on Europe

After signing Erling Haaland, Manchester City will have to shed some players in order not to violate FIFA’s Financial Fair Play. Storm talent Julian Alvarez is not one of the prank candidates.

The Skyblues bought the Argentine for €20m earlier this year but have agreed that the centre-forward will remain at River Plate until the end of the season. There the attacker scored 14 goals in 17 games. This statistic has obviously not gone unnoticed by Manchester’s competition.

“We’ve had many offers from clubs to loan Julian Alvarez – but he won’t go,” insists City chief executive Ferran Soriano. “He will do the pre-season with us and I think he will stay.” Interested parties are likely to hold back after this announcement for the time being.

Pep Guardiola seems literally looking to go further on the offensive next season. The Citizens coach played attractive attacking football last season, which allowed his team to score a total of 150 goals in all competitions. Since it was “only” enough for the English championship, the clout is significantly increased.

In addition to the unerring Julian Alvarez, who recently became the first professional in history to score six goals in a Copa Libertadores game, Guardiola is particularly relying on new signing Erling Haaland for this project. The Norwegian scored 86 goals in 89 games in his two and a half years at Borussia Dortmund alone. If he had been injured less often this season, this record would certainly have been even more impressive.
