Growing Anti-War Sentiment in the Russian Federation: New Poll Results

A new poll showed an increase in anti-war sentiment in the Russian Federation, many Russians no longer like the “special operation.”

Despite the powerful militaristic propaganda and repressions, anti-war sentiments are growing in the Russian Federation. The proportion of Russians who consider the “special operation” a mistake has reached a record level.

These are the results survey Russian company Russian Field.

From June 16 to June 19, the company polled 1,609 Russians of different gender, age, and place of residence. She was interested in their opinion about the aggression against Ukraine and recorded the growth of pacifist sentiments.

Thus, 35% of respondents said they would cancel the decision to invade Ukraine if there was an opportunity to return to the past. This is a record high. At the beginning of the “SVO” there were only 26% of them, in December 2022 – 33%, now it is already 35%, that is, as the war continues, Russians like it less and less.

It is indicative that among the younger generation of Russians (18-24 years old) 57% consider Putin’s “special operation” a mistake. But the older generation, obviously, is more susceptible to propaganda and wants to continue the aggression.

For the first time, the share of Russians who would not cancel the decision to start “SVO” fell below half to 49%. This option, which is important, was supported most of all by men over 45 years old.

On the whole, the survey demonstrates a certain illogicality in the way Russians think about the “special operation.” Thus, 64% of Russians are ready to support Putin’s decision on a new offensive against Kyiv, and 72% support his signing a peace agreement with Kiev. Such a position can be interpreted rather as an expression of loyalty to the regime or fear of it, but not support for the war.

The poll also showed that in the Russian Federation the number of supporters of the continuation of the war and the transition to peace negotiations has become equal. 45% of the citizens of the Russian Federation want to continue the war, 44% want to move on to peace negotiations.

Earlier it was reported that in the Russian Federation a proportion was established in which 85% of the country’s population is either poor or destitute.

We also wrote that the Russians showed their true faces by reacting to the deaths of civilians in Krivoy Rog.
