Groningen director Fledderus in conversation with Redan about controversial video | NOW

Technical director Mark-Jan Fledderus of FC Groningen is not happy with the video that has surfaced of Daishawn Redan. The attacker was playing football on a square with a group of people, including Aajacied Quincy Promes, and did not follow the rules in the fight against the corona virus.

The video shows a total of ten people playing football on an artificial grass field in an Amsterdam neighborhood. This is not in line with the measures that the government has put in place to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus, such as avoiding group formation and limiting social contact.

In addition, the municipality of Amsterdam recently decided to temporarily close all football cages and Cruijff Courts in the city. That rule has been in place since Thursday, March 26, so Redan and Promes were officially not allowed on the field on Saturday.

“This is not what we have agreed”, technical director Fledderus van Groningen said on Sunday evening RTV North. “I think it would be nice to first hear the story of Redan, although this does not look very positive. I will also call the trainer (Danny Buijs, ed.) To discuss how we deal with this.”

“We kept an appropriate distance from each other”

Redan, who, like the other Groningen players, must remain in the province by agreement, claims that he went to Amsterdam “after talking to the club”. “We were training for ourselves and kept an appropriate distance from each other. People then heard that Promes and I were there and started filming us.”

The Eredivisie is currently on hold due to the outbreak of the coronavirus and all training facilities in the Netherlands are also closed, which means that training cannot take place. On Tuesday it will be clear whether the league can be resumed soon or whether the Eredivisie will be idle longer.

Nineteen-year-old Redan has been playing on a rental basis for Groningen since the beginning of this year, which he will take over from Hertha BSC for the rest of the season. In contrast to Groningen, Ajax has not yet commented on the much-discussed video.

The coronavirus in short

  • The coronavirus mainly spreads from person to person via sneezing and cough drops. The chance of becoming infected through surfaces such as door handles is small. This chance decreases if you wash your hands often.
  • You can considerably reduce the chance of spreading by keeping at least 1.5 meters away from others.
  • An infected person infects two to three others on average. Precautions are necessary to contain this.
  • The vast majority of patients have mild (flu-like) complaints.
  • Almost all deaths involve the elderly or other vulnerable persons, such as heart, lung or diabetes patients. If everyone complies with the measures, this reduces their risks.
