“Gregoria Mariska Tunjung Settles for Runner-Up in Malaysia Masters 2023; Defeated by Akane Yamaguchi in Women’s Singles Final”

Gregoria Mariska Tunjung had to settle for being runner up Malaysia Masters 2023. He was defeated by the world number one badminton player, Akane Yamaguchitwo direct sets.

The Malaysia Masters women’s singles final brought together Gregoria Mariska vs Akane Yamaguchi. The duel took place at the Axiata Arena, Sunday (28/3/2023) afternoon WIB.

A fierce duel occurred at the start of the first set with both badminton players gaining the same points 6-6. Akane Yamaguchi wins 4 straight points and leads 10-6.

Gregoria Mariska Tunjung was chasing 9-10. One blow from the Indonesian representative put Akane ahead 11-9 in the interval.

Akane stepped on the gas after the interval and took a 16-11 lead. Gregoria reduced the score 14-17 and 17-18 through balls that were directed near the net.

Akane Yamaguchi reached the game point 201-17. Gregoria’s mistake in returning the ball closed the first set in favor of Akane 21-17.

Gregoria struggled to keep pace with Akane early in the second set and trailed 2-9. Akane reaches the interval with an 11-2 advantage.

Akane Yamaguchi got point after point after the second interval. The Japanese badminton player ended the match with a win 21-7.

This result makes it certain that Indonesia will be without a title at the 2023 Malaysia Masters event.
