Gregoria Mariska Tunjung Makes History with Japan Masters 2023 Championship Win

Champion title Gregoria Mariska Tunjung Of Japan Masters 2023 received direct appreciation from the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo who congratulated him via his social media.

Jokowi expressed his appreciation to Gregoria via his official Instagram. He not only congratulated him but also uploaded a photo of Jorji, his close nickname, while on the podium.

Indonesia’s name is victorious in the Badminton Championships Japan Masters 2023 through Indonesian women’s singles Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, today. “Gregoria became champion after the final which was held at the Kumamoto Prefectual Gymanisum, defeating Chen Yu Fei from China in an exciting two-game duel,” read Jokowi’s statement.

“From the Fatherland, I convey my congratulations to Gregorian,” he continued.

Responding to these remarks, Gregoria immediately replied with thanks to Jokowi on the comments page. “Thank you sir!” wrote Gregoria while adding an emoji of palms joined together, as well as a Red and White flag.

As previously reported, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung has just made history by successfully capturing the highest podium in the tournament Japan Masters 2023which is officially named Kumamoto Masters Japan 2023.

This achievement is a record in itself: this is the first time that Indonesian women’s singles have won the BWF World Tour Super 500 tournament. Gregoria Mariska Tunjung sealing the championship title after overcoming the resistance of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics gold medal badminton player from China, Chen Yu Fei, in the game straight game.

Gregoria, who previously won the 2023 Spain Masters, won with a twin score of 21-12, 21-12. The fight which took place at the Kumamoto Prefectural Gymnasium, Sunday (19/11/2023), was completed in 40 minutes.
